Finland's Bocuse d'Or national selection took place on 28 May 2025 at Logomo in Turku. Organized by the Bocuse d'Or Academy Finland in conjunction with the Chef of the Year and Waiter of the Year competitions, the event brought together three candidates competing for the opportunity to represent Finland on the international stage.
The initiative aimed to strengthen Finnish food culture, increase the visibility of the hospitality industry and create a clear pathway for culinary professionals aspiring to competitive excellence.
Results of the Selection
At the conclusion of the competition, Johan Kurkela was selected to lead Team Finland for the 2025-2027 Bocuse d'Or cycle.
Accompanied by commis Niilo Suominen and coach Mikko Kaukonen, he secured victory with 937 points, ahead of Mikko Pakola, who finished second with 871 points. According to the jury, Kurkela's team stood out for its quality, clarity and consistency. Following the national selection, preparations began for the European selection and the road toward the Bocuse d'Or Grand Finale in Lyon.
Following the national selection, Johan Kurkela, together with commis Niilo Suominen and coach Mikko Kaukonen, represented Finland at the Bocuse d'Or Europe 2026, held in Marseille on 15 and 16 March 2026. Competing against 20 European nations, Team Finland achieved an impressive 6th place, securing one of the ten qualifying spots for the Bocuse d'Or Grand Final, which will take place during Sirha Lyon in January 2027.
